MasterChef Australia S13E29
WARNING!!!! Spoilers for MasterChef Australia S13E29!!!
Recently I've started watching quite a lot of culinary reality shows, one of which was MasterChef Australia. To put it shortly, MasterChef is about a group of home cooks who want to prove their worth in the kitchen. Every week the judges test their different skills, and in the end, only one contestant can win the title of MasterChef.
As I have also watched the USA and Canadian versions, I can say that the Australian edition is much different. While the North American releases heavily focus on being as dramatic as possible, the Australian version is much more wholesome and focuses on how amazing food can truly be.
In the latest episode of Season 13, 5 chefs who prepared the best dishes in the previous episode had to battle it out for immunity from elimination. These chefs were Elise and Kishwar, 2 of my favorites from the season, Linda, who I also really like, and Pete and Dan, who haven't impressed me that much so far. As they walked in the kitchen, they were presented with 8 of the hottest chili peppers in the world. My 2 personal favorite names of the peppers were the Hurt Berry and the God Stopper. Then, each chef drew a random number from a bag, and each number corresponded to one of the chili peppers. After everyone was assigned a pepper, the judges said that they had 75 minutes to prepare a dish featuring the pepper they got. The cooking period seemed to be very stress-free. Everyone seemed to be calm and collected, which was a nice change from the previous episodes.
Pete made a pasta dish featuring the Hurt Berry, which received mixed reviews from the judges. Kishwar prepared a crab curry using the chocolate Trinidad scorpion, which, as the judges said, would've been perfect only if the crab wasn't slightly overcooked. Elise, just like Pete, made a pasta dish, and it got positive feedback. Linda cooked up a salad and dressing with an eye fillet using the God stopper, which the judges also loved. And finally, Dan tried to do something outside the box and made chocolate chili ice cream, but the execution wasn't that great, ruining his chances at winning this challenge. In the end, Linda's dish stood out the most, gaining her immunity from next episode's elimination.
As I love spicy food, I would've loved to be a part of the judging panel this episode so I could taste those amazing-looking dishes. Personally, just by looking at the dishes, I also would've given Linda the win this episode since her dish seemed to be very well put together and overall looked the most delicious.
The preview for the next episode showed that the elimination challenge will revolve around different types of meat, which makes me a little bit anxious, since almost all of my favorites are dessert makers, and I would be gutted to see any one of them go home.
